The objective of this project was to implement the MasterCard PayPass (contactless) technology within an existing MasterCard issuing system.

My task was to understand the PayPass technology in terms of the ICC data, how the contact and contactless interfaces operate, PIN security for the contactless interface, and the offline nature of the contactless technology. Together with the team assigned to this project, we had to evaluate the impact to the current businesses, processes, applications, systems, and risks associated with the contactless technology. We worked with PASA (Payments Association of South Africa) and MasterCard to understand and implement all rules governing contactless transactions within the South African region.

I worked closely with the card development and card production teams and was responsible for the authorization backend development, assisting with the MasterCard certification (authorization and clearing), and supporting the development testing team.
